How are students actually using AI tools to support their learning?

The UI Department of Chemistry faculty and OTLT Research and Analytics coded hundreds of conversations between students and an AI homework chatbot to uncover how learners engage with AI tutors — and whether those interactions support or hinder learning. Discover what they learned at an event on Friday, Oct. 17, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. in 106 Gilmore Hall (GILH). Register by Oct. 15.

The presentation will explore the types of questions students ask AI tutors, how they navigate AI interactions, and how certain engagement patterns are associated with stronger learning outcomes.

Beyond conversation data, the team gathered input from thousands of students on AI’s role in their learning. This presentation will highlight students' expectations, concerns, and ideas for how AI could be integrated into the classroom.

Join us for this session to explore how students are engaging with AI tutors — and how you can apply these insights to enhance your own teaching strategies and course design.
